Of course I jumped at the chance!\u00a0 I thought of things I could do while caring for the sweet three-year-old during the day before the older children returned home from school.\u00a0 When I received a flyer with fall classes available at Country Woolens I found that The Wonderful Wallaby was going to be one offered class. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I had been dying to make that sweater for years. I have purchased the pattern booklet at least once before, and I think twice.\u00a0 Well, I signed up for the class and purchased the pattern booklet again( as locating the previously purchased booklet was impossible), as well as yarn and another set of size six\u00a0 16\u2033 circular needles.\u00a0 Again.\u00a0 The total cost was somewhat staggering but since I had just received mileage reimbursement for a genealogy class, I felt I could make the purchase.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Preparing for the first class by knitting the ribbing went well. At the class we began the process which would create the kangaroo pouch plus the lower body of the sweater.\u00a0 I decided to do a little pattern with white on the navy blue body of the sweater which B had chosen for his yarn.\u00a0 At the end of that first class I was really up for this knitting project.\u00a0 So glad to finally be working on it.\u00a0 I imagined making many of these wallabies\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>During days babysitting I got the sweater knit up before the end of the two-week stint.\u00a0 B tried it on and was thrilled with the kangaroo pouch pocket where he could \u201ctouch his hands together\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96\" src=\"https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"Navy Wonderful Wallaby sweater with white patterning on lower part of sweater\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W-768x1027.jpg 768w, https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W-766x1024.jpg 766w, https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W-1200x1604.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/crossett.net\/thecountrywife\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Wonderful-Wallaby-Back-W.jpg 1915w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 85vw, 224px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wonderful Wallaby sweater back showing a little patterning to make the knitting more interesting<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This sweater was knit in size 4 using US size 6 and US size 8 needles and Plymouth Encore yarn.\u00a0 My gauge was slightly larger than specified but I thought it would work all right for a growing boy.\u00a0 He will be able to wear it at least through the fall.<\/p>\n<p>My plan was to also knit a size 8 or 10 for C but my hands wore down from the knitting.\u00a0 I guess arthritis is a reality\u2026\u00a0 Even hand-knitting a pair of requested mittens seems beyond me today.\u00a0 Fortunately I have finally gotten the new-to-me old Brother KH800 knitting machine cleaned and lubricated and even knit preliminary gauge swatches.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When our local daughter-in-law was planning to visit her family in Denmark she asked me if I would want to watch the three younger children for two weeks.
